This is the "official" website of the adult rec hockey league team, the Beer Hawks. We are going to have some new faces again this session and will hopefully be able to repeat as league champs even though we are in a different rink.
We typically play our games at Seven Bridges Ice Arena in Woodridge, IL.
The Beer Hawks arrived at Addison Ice Arena on Monday and were not sure if they were still in an alcohol induced haze from the weekend, or if the ice arena was having a little problem with the moisture in the air. By the end of the game, it seemed pretty clear that both factors were involved in the outcome of the game.
The Beer Hawks took an early lead on goals from Rick, from Don and Chris (it doesn't matter which Chris, any Chris will do) and Ryan, from Jeff, who arrived late, but brought a fan, so his tardiness was excused. Rick took the short lived experiment at forward to heart, and pinched in from his defensive point during a scoring play. Luckily for him, someone noticed his actions, covered his point, stopped a Dynamo clearing effort, and sent the puck back behind the net to Chris, to Don, who sent the puck to the net for Rick to redirect. Ryan did what Ryan does. Took a pass from Jeff, went straight to the net (he did not pass go, he did not collect $200) and scored.
After leading, 2-1 to start the second, the game went to pot. Dynamo scored on a couple of odd man brakes, 1 poorly defended 1-3 opportunity, and 1 goal with the net knocked off its position. When asked about the net being off, the official closest to the play refused to acknowledge the net was off, and the far official went back to the net to replace it, he said he was unaware the net was off, until it was to put the net back in position .... HMMM.
The Beer Hawks failed on several chances to score. Missed opportunities, and some good saves by the Dynamo goalie left the Beer Hawks on the short end of the scoreboard. Although outscored, the Beer Hawks were not about to go down without a fight. Several penalties (4 min each for Steve and Anthony) and several unpenalized retaliatory hits (1 by Goose 1 in protection of Goose 2) and another by Jimmy (who apparently has a better memory than the guy he hit), helped ease the sting of the loss just a bit.
Next Game is Tuesday 06/30 @ 9pm vs the Pigs. Good seats are still avail ... ah hell with it, the place will be empty as usual.
Typically, you can count the number of fans at any given adult rec hockey league game without using any fingers. However, the popularity of the Beer Hawks is spreading. There were at least 17 Beer Hawks fans in attendance for the game against The Golems. The Beer Hawks responded with a solid 6-2 victory, giving the fans a reason to come back. After the game, several of the younger fans waited outside the Beer Hawks locker room hoping to get some of the players' autographs. Thrilled to have such a huge fan base, the players eagerly complied. One player even took a photo with some of the fans.
The Beer Hawks got started early when Jeff made a couple of good moves and fired one past the goalie. The Gosling continued his scoring touch by notching 2 goals and gaining the attention of a couple of the younger fans. Dr. Doffense made his presence known with a couple of assists and 2 penalties. The Goose and Leonard each had an assist. Chris, no not that Chris, the other one. No, no. The OTHER other one. Yeah, that one. He had a goal and an assist. The game winner came from the Gnat Line. Chris (yeah, that one) had the puck in the corner and banked it off of an opposing defenseman's skate to Jimmy. Jimmy sent the puck to the front of the net knowing that Greg would be there, which he was. Greg, the crowd favorite, put it 5 hole to the back of the net.
Our next game is Monday, June 22 @ 8:10pm at Seven Bridges. We play Dynamo.
The Beer Hawks organization would like to extend a sincere Thank You to all of the fans that took the time to make it to the game. We understand that you are busy and did not have to be there. And, we apologize for making you sign the waiver saying that you were there by your own free will and were not forced or coerced into attending. But, our lawyers thought it was necessary.
After Leonard's pitiful display of begging for points, I have met with all necessary people (aka myself) and have implemented The Hetfleisch Rule.
The Hetfleisch Rule is named after Bill Hetfleisch who was notorious for following the refs to the scorer's table after every single goal in order to make sure he got either the goal itself or an assist. Rumor has it that he was so good at working the refs that he once recorded 3 goals and 4 assists in a game that he wasn't even at.
The Punishment: If it is determined that a Beer Hawks player is begging for points from the refs during a game, the Committee has the discretion to disallow some or all of the points recorded and they will not count towards official Beer Hawks stats.
Leonard has joined the 100 Point Club. He is the first Beer Hawk to hit the 100 mark at Addison Ice Arena. He did it with a goal and 2 assists.
Yet another Beer Hawk broke the 100 career point mark by getting a hat trick. Greg had 99 points in 99 games. But, in his 100th career game as a forward, he netted a hat trick and an assist to break the century mark.
Ryan is the third Beer Hawk to break the 100 career point mark by getting a hat trick. Congrats to Ryan.
The Beer Hawks would like to welcome Kevin to the 100 point club. He had a goal and an assist to put him at 101 points. Congrats.
Jimmy has joined the elite list of 100 point Beer Hawks. He had a hat trick and an assist in the championship game to bring his career total to 102 points. Congrats.
Since the Beer Hawks started keeping track of stats a few years ago, Bill had his mind set on hitting 100 points. His hat trick in the championship game of the Summer '06 season gave him the final 3 points needed to attain that goal. With 61 G and 39 A, Bill is the Beer Hawks first official 100 point getter. Congrats Bill. Just think where you would be if you actually showed up to a few more games.
If you still haven't paid me for this season or if you still owe me money for the jersey, get that to me as soon as possible.
